To get inspiration for creating my own type I viewed fonts on Dafont. This website holds a wide base of fonts and I viewed the handwritten ones as i felt these would fit the theme of my children book. I liked the thin hand drawn ones as these were childlike and would appeal to the target audience.
I used a dip pen to create my type and added swirls to each of the ends to add character and originality. Also this type appeals to the target audience as it is messy and childlike.
I then placed the drawn pieces of type in Photoshop and edited the levels so to make the document black and white. To separate the letters I removed the white with the magic wand tool so I could just have the black letters.
I then added a background and created drawings which I coloured in on Photoshop to go on the page to add character and originality to the type. Also the drawings fit in with the theme of gardening allowing me to use them on our book cover. I then aligned all the type so it was neat and proffessional.
I duplicated the garden drawings on the top and bottom of the page so to create a sense of continuity on the piece. I then set up ruler lines so I could place the letters on the lines so they were all neat and in line. I also included other symbols, numbers and lower case so to broaden the options of the type and make it professional.
